The fifth most endangered shark is the angel shark. It is often confused with a bull shark. This shark dwells in the Ganges River in India. Bull Sharks A recent DNA study showed that the Irrawaddy river shark is the same species as the Ganges shark. This species strongly resembles sting rays. Famous species such as the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) and the whale shark (Rhincodon typus) are Vulnerable although the size of the latter and the ferocity of the first are striking.The power of humans over species almost defenseless against them has won. Angel sharks are known for having flattened bodies and a broad pectoral fins. The Ganges river dolphin was officially discovered in 1801. Ganges river dolphins once lived in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Karnaphuli-Sangu river systems of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. These species are facing extinction because of a combination of the threats to their specific habitat and food sources, as well low reproductive rates. After an extensive search in the Ganges River over the past decade, a few additional specimens were caught in 1996.
It is amongst the 20 most threatened shark species and is listed as a Critically Endangered species in the IUCN Redlist.
