Leon Kossoff is one of Britain’s greatest living artists, best known for his impastoed figurative and cityscape paintings and his heavy emphasis on drawing, both as a medium itself and as an intrinsic part of his painting process. School of London painter Leon Kossoff (British, b.1926) has maintained the principles of Expressionism he first practiced with David Bomberg (British, 1890-1957), yet has evolved his own personal style over his career. Aged 13 when the Second World War broke out, he was evacuated to Norfolk and although the family with whom he was living showed him much kindness, even buying him his first paint box, it was in London that he belonged.
